Megan Bugg Memorial Golf Outing
was held June 28, 2025
The 6th Annual “Megan Bugg Memorial Golf Outing” was held on June 28, 2025 at the Morris Country Club. This year’s sold out event hosted 264 golfers using both The Club and The Creek courses. The golf portion of the event was followed by a dinner, formal presentation, raffles, auction, and live music.
Thanks to the generosity of our over 100 sponsors and 264 golfers, the event raised over $105,000 to support the Megan’s Mission Foundation and their goal to realize Megan Bugg’s dream of ending childhood cancer through advocacy and research. These funds will be used to continue supporting some of the most promising and innovative childhood cancer research in the country taking place in the “Megan Bugg Global Rhabdomyosarcoma Research Laboratory” at the Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute.
Participants heard an impassioned plea by Dr. Kent Bugg on the current shortage of funding for childhood cancer research. Currently, the Federal Government allocates only 4-6% of their total NIH cancer research budget towards childhood cancer. Likewise, pharmaceutical companies ignore childhood cancer research because they do not view the outcomes as profitable due to childhood cancer being perceived as a rare disease. As a result, research institutions studying childhood cancer depend on the funding provided by nonprofits like the Megan’s Mission Foundation as their lifeline to continue researching less toxic and more effective cures for children impacted by this terrible disease.
Dr. Charles Keller (Research Director) from the Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute was present to discuss the impact that Megan Bugg’s legacy and the Megan’s Mission Foundation has had on the childhood cancer community. This includes funding research projects that have resulted in multi-million dollar grants.
The Megan’s Mission Foundation also awarded the first annual “Megan Bugg Courage Award” to honor the memory of Katie Histing, who passed away on November 25, 2024 from Ewings Sarcoma. Katie was one of Megan’s closest friends in the childhood cancer community. Katie’s mother, Lynn Histing was presented the award in Katie’s honor.
The Megan’s Mission Foundation will continue to honor the life and legacy of Megan Bugg by continuing her fight to eradicate the nightmare of childhood cancer. Thank you to everyone who made the 6th Annual Megan Bugg Memorial Golf Outing such a huge success.
